When William Klein was the master butcher of his local delicatessen, customers would come into the store and refer to him as the “The Big Chief”. This nickname, paired with the association of beef jerky created by the Indigenous people throughout history gave birth to the brand Big Chief and the company called Big Chief Meat Snacks Inc. Although our heritage is European, we recognize the Indigenous people as the inventors of dried meats, then referred to as “Ch’arki” or “pemmican” and now known as beef jerky. Fusing both our family and company history, with the product history, we came up with the Big Chief brand name, Big Chief Indian Head logo, and our signature orange and purple colors. Please visit About for more information about the company.
